Micromax + CyanogenMod = Yureka (YU)

There are times when you know that you have just witnessed a miracle. This past month, there have been a few smartphones that have been launched throughout the world in the mobile arena. On the one hand, many of them have decent specs; but on the other, there are smartphones that stand out in the mobile ocean.

One such smartphone is Micromax’ new YU branded Yureka smartphone. There have been numerous smartphones before this one, and the one that closely competes with this one is Xioami’s Redmi Note. Both smartphones have similar specs and are only separated by minor changes. When you consider these small changes, which are negligible to the average user, you are left with the only option of selecting the smartphone that meets your needs.

One of the best things that Micromax has done so far with its Yureka smartphone is that it is providing an unlocked boot loader, high customizability, root access within warranty, a 64-bit Snapdragon processor, Kernel Source, powerful specifications, full Android Build tree, and onsite service to users within India.

It looks like Micromax is going to take head-on its competitors and kicked them out of India’s mobile phone market. Many smartphone manufacturers do not allow their devices to be unlocked or rooted within warranty. Whenever a power user or an enthusiast does this, the warranty is automatically voided. Micromax on the other hand, is encouraging its users to do the same. They’re even offering on-site warranty coverage and service.

Micromax has been previously building its user base in India and in a few countries outside of India’s market. If you remember, previously, Micromax launched if you fix devices in Russia. Even though the YU branded Yureka smartphone is a rebrand of the Coolpad F2, which is incidentally known also as the Coolpad Great God F2, it is still a good-hearted effort to capture the Indian smartphone market.

Micromax has been, for the better part of its smartphone career, copying high-end smartphones from other manufacturers. We believe that this would change with the latest launch, but it seems that Micromax is keeping costs down by rebranding and importing smartphones. The only twist in the latest launch is that they have decided to go with the CyanogenMod ROM so that users will get the latest updates as and when they are made available by Cyanogen.

By the looks of it, Micromax is looking to disrupt the smartphone market in India, even if they have to rebrand Chinese smartphones. After looking at the specifications, we’re pleased that Micromax has made a good intended effort at giving its users in India, a smartphone with powerful specifications. It will now truly be a good competition for Xioami, as an Indian manufacturer has taken steps to provide them with good competition.
